Reconciling personal achievements with the broader needs of the community is something, which greatly desired by Pakistanis. They selflessly seek the development and encouragement of the community as a whole whilst trying to achieve great things for themselves. One individual who has applied his thoughts and actions to uniting the needs of the community with his own personal achievements is Dr Tariq Mahmood Mian.
Dr Tariq Mahmood Mian, who was born in District Gujrat, did his graduation from Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore in 1982. He did his MRCGP in the UK in 2005. [Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) is a postgraduate medical qualification in the UK. The MRCGP Qualification is an integrated training and assessment system run by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). It aims to demonstrate excellence in the provision of General Practice].
He started his clinical career as Diabetic research officer in Services Institute of Health Sciences and served from 1983 till 1984. Then he was appointed as demonstrator Allama Iqbal Medical College from 1984 till 1989. He started working in a private clinic of Faiz bagh as Family physician from 1984 till 1998.
He started his own hospital with the name of Tariq hospital in Misri Shah, Lahore in 1998, which is now one of the best multidisciplinary hospital in town and serving the patients at very minimal cost. He is working in Tariq hospital as CEO and chief family physician till date.
He was General Secretary Pakistan Medical Association, Lahore from 1984 till 1988 and served for the rights and welfare of doctors. He was selected as General Secretary Pakistan Academy of family physicians (PAFP) regd. in 2002 and remained on the post till 2005. In 2008, he was honoured to be appointed as President PAFP (Regd.) and is doing his much liked job till to date.
He is leading organizer of multiple continuing medical education (CME) activities for family physicians round the year. He with his team organizes a conference of PAFP each year with name of Familycon which is always blooming with multiple scientific sessions and academic activities.
Dr Tariq Mahmood Mian is also member of;
(1) Hepatitis control Programme of Pakistan, (2) Infectious control committee of Pakistan, (3) Punjab Healthcare Commission Selection Committee, (4) National Bioethics committee, (5) Population welfare programme Government of Pakistan.
Besides academic activities, Dr Tariq also did a lot of social work with his team. He arranged medical camps for Internally Displaced People (IDPs) of Swat, arranged more than 200 medical teams to help the victims of flooded areas of Punjab. He also arranged medical and utility camps in the Bagh district Bagh of Azad Kashmir.
Pakistan Academy of family physicians also arranges medical conference at Lahore every year in the name of Familycon. It is 3 day conference and 8000 doctors visit this conference.
