A Left-arm fast-medium bowler who bats right handed, Rahat Ali was born on September 12, 1988 in Multan. He made his debut in 2007-08 for Multan, before shifting to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited the following season. He was in sparking form for Khan Research Laboratories and Baluchistan in 2011-12, taking a total of 61 first-class wickets. It earned him a call-up to the Pakistan one-day squad for the tour of Sri Lanka in 2012, and a Test debut against South Africa in Johannesburg the next year.
Known for his brisk pace and movement off the deck, the selectors wanted him to bowl on the bouncy South African wickets and included him in the Test squad. He played his first Test match against South Africa in Johannesburg. Although he bowled well could not pick up any wickets. It was at the Centurion in the second Test that he really troubled the Proteas. Even the likes of Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers could not handle his pace and bounce and he ended the innings with 6 wickets conceding 127 runs.
The rookie left-arm bowler Rahat Ali was given a last-minute chance to live his ICC Cricket World Cup dream when he was called into the Pakistan squad to replace the injured Junaid Khan in the Pakistan side. At the time of his inclusion Ali had played just one one-day international, against Sri Lanka in 2012, where he took 0-34. He was called into the team after a productive start to the year on the domestic circuit. He was also part of the Pakistan team which met Australia and New Zealand in Dubai, twice picking up four-wicket hauls against the Black Caps.
Rahat Ali was a part of the Pakistan team in the 2015 World Cup and picked up 7 wickets in the tournament. His best performance came against South Africa in a group game, where he registered figures of 3/40 and Pakistan won the match by D/L method.
Some of his major domestic teams have been Multan Tigers, Khan Research Laboratory and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited. In about 50 first-class games he has taken over 180 wickets at very impressive average of around 22.
