Professional Achievements

Abdul Ghaffar was born in Faisalabad on the 9th October 1966. He received his primary and secondary education in the area before going on to gain a BSc in Economics from government college Toba Tek Singh. Ghaffar came to Britain in 1988 to get married to his uncle’s daughter. He had a traditional upbringing in Pakistan and believes very strongly in the educational and social values of the Muslim culture.

Coming to Britain when he was 22 has meant that he has arrived young enough to be able to learn new skills and absorb the advances in technology available here while also being old enough to resist many of the distractions west has to offer.

This makes him the perfect example of one who can take from both cultures and absorb the positive aspects of each country without it distorting his sense of identity. He believes that it is important for his three children to understand both cultures and to feel at home in Pakistan and Britain. Despite his desire to continue living and working in Britain he still wants to keep close connections with Pakistan and wants to encourage his children to do the same to absorb the values, culture and social priorities which an Islamic upbringing offers.

When he arrived in the UK he began working for the Azad Video Company and steadily worked his way up to the position as General Manager of the company. He now runs his own General Grocer’s Store in Cumbernauld.

He is known for his diligence, application and sense of humour and looks forward to a good future for his children.
