Dr. Mazhar Nizam graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi, in 1984. In 1985 he went to UK for and did his FRCS in 1989. After that he decided to take plastic surgery as his field and started specialized training in Plastic Surgery and got certificate of training in Plastic surgery from British association of Plastic surgeons in 1993.
Dr. Nizam then trained further in the highly specialized Plastic Surgery Centers in the UK and worked as a SR plastic surgery in various hospitals and worked with world famous Plastic surgeons from 1993 to 1996. Along with that he attended various workshops and courses, presented and published many papers. His keen interest was in Microsurgery, Head and neck reconstruction and aesthetic surgery and he got command in these fields along with general Plastic surgery.
Dr. Nizam then worked as a consultant Plastic surgeon in NHS and Shortley Bridge Hospital from 1996 to 1999. He returned back to homeland and joined as Assistant professor in Ziauddin Medical University Clifton Karachi in year 2000. In 2002 he joined Patel Hospital as Director Burns and Plastic Surgery and still working there. Here he achieved many milestones for Patel.
Dr. Nizam developed Pakistan’s first burns specialized unit in Patel hospital through help of funds and he worked alone day and night to treat poor burn patients and to teach the junior staff how to deal with burns. Along with that he continued his work in microsurgery and he is one of the most successful head and neck reconstructive surgeons in Pakistan. Having a soft heart for poor and needy he attached himself with various charitable works. He is attached with Smile train, world’s largest cleft lip and palate NGO in 2005 and since then he is working for poor cleft children. He is also in attachment with children cancer hospital and baitul sukoon hospital to provide surgical assistance to cancer patients.
Because of his sincere efforts and managerial abilities, Dr. Nizam was appointed as Medical Director of Patel hospital in 2011 and still he is working on this post putting all his efforts for the institute. With his efforts today Patel hospital is recognized for training in various specialties including Plastic surgery by CPSP. He is supervisor for trainees in Plastic Surgery for FCPS. He is also lifetime member of Pakistan Association of Plastic surgeons.
Despite of all these activities Dr. Nizam has achieved a big name in cosmetic surgery too and is one of the few top cosmetic surgeons of Karachi. By nature a very down to earth and soft hearted person, he never strived for popularity and busy in work in his own way.
