D Nazir Khaja is a Clinical Professor of medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine and in a private medical practice in Los Angeles. He is Founder and member of the board of directors of the California-based Islamic Information Service, a member of the steering Committe of the Progressive Religious Partnership, a founding member of the Council of Pakistan American Affairs, and a member of the Association of Pakistani Physicians in North America.

He is also past President and Chairman of the board of the American Muslim Council. Previously, Dr. Khaja was a member of the Interfaith Peace Delegation to the Middle East (2001).
 
He was an active member of the Rainbow / Push Coalition and National Council of Churches’ delegation to Belgrade to meet President Milosevic which successfully negotiated the release of three American prisoners (1999).
 
He served as Chief of Medicine at the Bay Harbor Hospital (1977-1980). His international medicine experience includes helping to establish the first and only medical school in Sierra Leone (1984), as well as being a visiting scholar to Kyoto University and to Riyadh Military Hospital in Saudi Arabia, and as an honorary professor of medicine at Lahore University in Pakistan.
