The growing band of professionals among Britain's Pakistani community should ensure that the following generations have sound examples to follow in the coming decades. Among those who have chosen to pursue a professional career is Dr Shahzad Riyaz, MRCP, C-PGME, MSc (Med Edu), FRCP, who has over 15 years of experience of working in the United Kingdom.
He has worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist / Hepatologist in various UK hospitals including Pinderfields General Hospital and Barnsley Hospital, UK. He has also worked at the Liver Transplant Unit at St James University Hospital, Leeds and the Hepatology Unit at Royal Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield, UK.
He relocated to Pakistan to develop Liver and Endoscopy services and is currently working as a Consultant Gastroenterologist / Hepatologist at Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, Pakistan.
Dr Riyaz has a special interest in Transplant Hepatology, ERCP, EUS and Hepato Pancreato-biliary medicine. He has extensive experience in managing Hepatitis B & C infections, End Stage Liver disease and pancreatic pathologies.
He is a keen interventional endoscopist and has special expertise in performing complex endoscopic procedures. He also has an interest in GI malignancy, Reflux, Irritable bowel Syndrome (IBS) and complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
He has been awarded with Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, London (FRCP). He has Certificate of Specialist Training with triple accreditation in Gastroenterology, General Medicine and Hepatology (CCST). He has a passion for teaching and has been awarded a master’s degree in Health Professional Education from the University of Glasgow (M.Sc. Med Edu).
