Faisal Ahmed Gilani was born in Muzaffarabad (AJK), Pakistan. He is currently the Partnership Development Manager (The Gulf) at Oxfam GB, tasked with exploring partnerships and working with different stakeholders in the Arab-Gulf region. He started this work in 2007 and Oxfam now has 4 key donors from the Gulf region and exploring partnerships with number of others. His work also includes capacity building of entities in the Gulf.
Prior to his elevation to this new role, Faisal was Humanitarian Funding Coordinator, in-charge for fundraising for Oxfam’s Humanitarian responses around the world. He was also donor-lead on DIFD (CHASE) and thematic-lead on Oxfam’s Disaster Risk Reduction programme.
Before joining Oxfam in January 2006, Faisal was Country Director for Afghanistan with Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI), an Italian Charity (2004-2005), and spent a total of 4.5 years in Afghanistan with COOPI and Islamic Relief as Head of Office/Regions between 2001 and 2004. Prior to joining humanitarian aid and development sector, Faisal was Business Development Manager for Pakistan & Central Asia, at Hyundai Engineering & Construction for over 4 years, based in Pakistan (1997-2001).
Faisal did Masters in International Political Economy at University of Birmingham, United Kingdom (1996); is married and has two young children aged 9 and 5.
