The growing band of professionals among Britain's Pakistani community should ensure that the following generations have sound examples to follow in the coming decades. Among those who have chosen to pursue a professional career is Mr Haris Ahmed.
Born in Lahore, Pakistan Haris Ahmed studied for his B.Com at Islamia College, Lahore and went on to do his M.Com from the famous Hailey College of Commerce, Lahore. He then continued his studies with Institute of Cost and Management Accountants while still in Pakistan.
In order to become a qualified accountant, Haris Ahmed decided to do his ACCA from United Kingdom and arrived in Glasgow in 1995. In 1996, while studying Haris also started working with South Side of Glasgow’s well established Pakistani firm of accountants Yousaf & Co. Apart from becoming financially independent also the idea to work was to gain practical experience in the field of accountancy.
In 1997, Haris moved to London for full time studies, where he completed his ACCA in 1999 and started working with Peter Gee & Co Chartered Accountants until the end of year 2000. In 2001, he joined the Charles Stuart & Co, a West of London’s firm of Chartered Accountants until 2003.
In 2004, he decided to move back to Glasgow to start his own firm as by that time he had completed his five years experience and obtained the certificate of ACCA to practice independently.
Mr Haris believes that our people should change their outlook and adjust to the needs of the present day business world. They should conduct their business professionally and educate their children to provide strength and ability for our community in the future.
