Kausar Abdulla Malik, who was born on 7 July 1945 in Lahore, is the eldest son of noted Urdu Language author, journalist, and Marxist, Abdullah Malik. Kausar is a noted agriculture scientist and educationist. Since 2008 he has been Professor of Biotechnology in Forman Christian College, Lahore.
Kausar Malik attended Forman Christian College from 1959–1961 and completed his pre-medical FSc. He then did his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from Government College University, Lahore. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in microbiology (PhD) from Aston University, United Kingdom.
Malik has worked at different positions and institutions during his scientific career, and maintains working relationships with many. He was the chief science officer (CSO) at Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB), Faisalabad. He served as the CSO of Pakistan's National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) and the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology, both bioscience research laboratories for Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. He later became the director of NIBGE. Malik is also a member of Pakistan's Ministry of Economic Development, the Planning Commission of Pakistan.
Kausar Malik is distinguished National Professor by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and has been awarded three prestigious civil awards by the Government of Pakistan at different occasions; Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
In 1997, he was awarded ISESCO Prize in Biology. Dr Malik is a Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and is one of five leading scientists and technologists appointed by the government to the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology.
Malik Played an influential role in the establishment of country's well known research institution, National Institute for Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Faislabad.
