Khalid Usman is a Canadian Pakistani, who originally hailed from Peshawar. He gained his B.Com (Hons) from Quaid-e-Azam College of Commerce, Peshawar University in 1970. He then migrated to Canada and did his CA from Toronto in 1975. In 2009, he was awarded Fellowship (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Khalid Usman was the first Pakistani to be elected as Councillor of the Markhan Town, Ontario, for three consecutive terms (total 9 years) where he also chaired Board of Trade, Transport, Finance and Administrative Committees.

More than couple of decades, resident of community, Khalid Usman volunteered with organizations including the Unionville Home Society Residences for seniors, the Canadian Federation of Intercultural Friendship and the International Development and Relief Foundation. He has also served on the board of directors of Markham Stouffville Hospital and currently sits on the hospital foundation board.

The charitable work of Khalid Usman has earned him numerous accolades and awards, including Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal, an Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship and the Tamgha-e-Khidmat from Pakistan. He was the only brown among the eleven persons who were awarded Ontario’s Most Prestigious Medal for Good Citizenship. His ability to bring people of many faiths together in support of a common cause sets a new standard and is truly inspiring.

As a Founding Director of the Canadian Federation of Intercultural Friendship, a multi-faith, multi-ethnic organization comprised of members and representatives from various cultures and organizations, Usman Khalid works towards the promotion of an environment of peace and harmony encouraging positive cultural interaction and cooperation through awareness, education and partnerships.

His advocacy work on behalf of the underprivileged and needy was instrumental in raising funds in response to natural world disasters such as Tsunami of 2004, Pakistani earthquake in 2005 and the Philippine mudslide in 2006. Khalid Usman was instrumental in raising funds for almost all the local hospitals and many social organizations including Imran Khan’s Cancer Hospital and Shifa Trust Eye Hospital of Pakistan.

Dr Abida Usman, who is niece of famous film star Daleep Kumar, is the proud partner of Khalid Usman. She readily volunteers her time to help him with his efforts, and also shows support through outstanding generosity of her own. Their children attribute the caring and selfless devotion of their father to fellow human beings in influencing their own decisions to volunteer in their community.
