Originally from Karachi, Mike Shaikh moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1974. Upon settling in Calgary, he received his Bachelor of Commerce degree in December 1976 from The University of Calgary and continued his educationand became a Chartered Accountant in 1980. In 1981 he started his own Chartered Accounting practice.
Mike is Director of various private, public and not-for-profit organizations including a Board Member for The University of Calgary, Canadian Association of Police Boards, the Chartered Accountants’ Education Foundation and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.
He was previously the President of the Kiwanis Club of Calgary. He is currently a Board Member for the Alberta Securities Commission as well as Education Matters – Calgary’s Public Education Trust. He is a Senator of the University of Calgary and is the Chairman of the Fund Development Committee, also a member of the General Faculty Council.
Mike Shaikh is a Senator-in-Waiting for Alberta and past Chair of the Calgary Police Commission from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is Honorary Counselor for Investment for the Government of Pakistan and is involved in promoting Pakistan to the Calgary business community. As an entrepreneur and businessman, Mike is aligned with the goals of Education Matters in ensuring students succeed in school and are ready for adult life.
