Born on 8 January 1961 in Karachi, a right-handed batsmen Shoaib Mohammad is the son of former Pakistani cricketer Hanif Mohammad. He played in 45 Tests and 63 ODIs from 1983 to 1995. He is currently involved in development of cricket in Pakistan and is coaching and taking trials on behalf of Pakistan Cricket Board. In February 2014 he was appointed the fielding coach of the national team.

Usually an opener, like his father, Shoaib restricted himself mainly to off-side shots, and his cover-drive was the sweetest of the lot. A front-foot player, Shoaib scored five of his seven Test centuries against the pitch-it-up bowlers of New Zealand. He was outstanding fielder who was as comfortable in the covers or deep on the leg side as he was under the helmet at short leg. As an occasional off-spinner, he was just beneath the partnership-breaking category.

Short, occasionally stroke less, but with almost inhuman powers of concentration, Shoaib was very much the son of Hanif Mohammad. A front-foot player, Shoaib scored five of his seven Test centuries against the pitch-it-up bowlers of New Zealand.

He was an alert fielder in the covers, but just as comfortable roaming the deep on the leg side or under the helmet at short leg. As an occasional off-spinner, he was just beneath the partnership-breaking category.
