In the last fours years, Asif Alam along with the volunteer members of AOPP has successfully implanted the concept of media awareness in the community - the very important concept of embedding the idea of voicing your opinion. Asif held several focus group meetings ranging from brainstorming sessions at places like Columbia University and New York University to participating in discussions with think tanks on South Asia about Pakistan and its people.

He played a pivotal role in the publication of several half page advertisements in New York Times, LA Times and USA Today on the first anniversary of September 11th from the Pakistani community. The concept was to show solidarity with American friends on the anniversary of the horrific event. Asif along with his friends at AOPP are working aggressively on creating platforms to display arts, music and literature along with bringing forward high achievers of the community from the different walks of life.

Asif Alam’s objective was and remains to engage media in a proactive manner to help create a better understanding about Pakistan, its society, people, diverse cultures and the issues that confront them at the turn of a new millennium. For him, AOPP is a response to this challenge which draws its ranks from a diversified pool of professionals that includes academicians, journalists, doctors, engineers, businessmen, lawyers and financial analysts. He believes that broad interaction with the American society will ultimately allow the Pakistani community to project a balanced perspective on South Asia at various levels. The membership of this voluntary forum has exploded from 7 to almost 600 members.

Mr. Asif Alam is well quoted in the western media and has been interviewed by electronic and print media. He has written extensively on "Better Image of Pakistan" both in the Pakistani and Western Media and has been speaking at various forums on Pakistan in the United States.
