Wasim Sajjad spent his childhood days at Army Burn Hall College, Abbottabad, from where he completed his O and A Levels. His father, the late Mr Justice Sajjad Ahmed Jan, served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and later as the Chief Election Commissioner. Wasim Sajjad would follow in his footsteps, becoming a lawyer.
After obtaining an M.A. (Political Science) and an LL.B. from the Punjab University, Wasim Sajjad proceeded to Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, from where he obtained the degrees of M.A. Jurisprudence and B.C.L. He is a Barrister-at-Law from the Inner Temple and is an honorary fellow of Wadham College, Oxford. He is a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and one of the leading lawyers of the country.
His political career began in the 1985 when he was elected to the Senate. He served as the Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary affairs, and also held the portfolio of the Federal Minister for Interior, under the Government of Prime Minister Muhammad Khan Junejo. He moved up to Chairman of the Senate in 1988 and held the office for 12 years.
As Law Minister, Mr. Wasim Sajjad established the Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad, the purpose of which was to train Lower Court Judges, in Case Handling and Management so as to expedite the disposal of cases. The Academy has now become an important centre for this purpose.
He has travelled extensively and led numerous delegations to countries all over the world. He has also held the office of the Acting President of Pakistan on several occasions.
After an absence of some years on account of his responsibilities in the Federal Government, Mr. Wasim Sajjad has now rejoined Sajjad Law Associates as its Head and Senior Partner.
